Where are you coming From?

Montrose Airport / Telluride

From Montrose 2 hours will get you to High Camp. Need a day or 2 to acclimate first? The town of Telluride has plenty of things to do while getting you used to the altitude. The second favorite goes to Ouray for all your rock/ice climbing and hiking dreams.

Winter: Driving South on hwy 145 from Telluride, your turn off will be 2 miles after Lizard Head Pass. Also after ‘Sheep Mountain Elevation sign’ and mile marker 50 - First parking turn off on right. Cross Mountain Trail Head in google maps. NO CELL SERVICE HERE!

Summer: Driving south Hwy 145 from Telluride, 1.9 miles after Lizard Head pass first dirt turn off on LEFT. Turn is on a large right hand bend in the road so be alert for LEFT TURN.

Durango

Flying in to this San Juan Mountain town has its perks and we highly recommend to spend an extra day to see it. From here is only 1.5 hours to High Camps Parking up through Dolores and Rico (hwy 160 to 145)

-

Winter: Once through Rico heading north on hwy 145 look for mile marker 51 - Parking lot will be in half of a mile on LEFT. Cross Mountain Trail Head on google. NO CELL SERVICE HERE

Summer: Parking area is the second dirt road turn off on RIGHT - after after East Fork Trail Head sign. If you’ve gone to lizard head pass you’ve gone to far and its 2 miles behind you.
