Built by the Farny family and friends, the High Camp Hut is a cabin in the back country of the San Juan Mountains, near Telluride, CO. The cabin sits on the edge of a high alpine meadow with views of Sheep Mountain and San Miguel Peak, and distant views of Wilson, Mt. Wilson, El Diente and Lizard Head Peak. High Camp is located in one of the most beautiful spots in Colorado and is my most favorite place in the world.
Depending on the weather, you can hike, snowshoe or cross-country ski through 2.5 miles of magnificent spruce forest. You will know you have arrived when you see a large two story cabin constructed from trees grown in the nearby woods. This will be your private retreat for the duration of your stay.
Toss aside your gear and make yourself at home in this snug and comfortably furnished cabin. If it is cold, crank up the huge potbelly stove, the wood is cut and ready to burn. The kitchen is well equipped; you supply the food. A long table lit with a candle chandelier provides the perfect setting to break bread with friends and loved ones and share the day's adventures. When night falls, remember to check out the stars. The clear mountain air, along with the absence of ambient light, allows for a perspective of the universe so vast and beautiful you will think maybe you really are in heaven.
The wood-burning sauna heats up quickly if you want to relax more fully before turning in for
the night. You will find comfortable beds in one of four second-floor bedrooms, or loft above. Awaken refreshed to the sound of quiet, and prepare for another day of adventure. You might picnic at Round Lake, or explore the big loop which we call the Grand Cirque, or you might even summit Sheep Mountain. The hill next to the cabin is great for sledding!
Please use the tool bar to your left for more information and pictures. We are finding that we book up earlier every year. If you are looking for a place to be in the mountains, please contact us right away. This is a spectacular area that has grabbed the hearts of so many. I look forward to sharing it with you and your friends.
Sincerely,
Cindy Farny-Mallett
