A Look Back at 2026 Retreats

This summer, guests gathered at High Camp to slow down, spend time outside, learn from one another, and experience the mountains in new ways. From wildflowers and watercolor to poetry, awe, and grief, each retreat offered a different way to connect with the landscape and community around us.

Gather & Grieve

For the third annual Gather & Grieve retreat, High Camp partnered with Thrive Health Network and welcomed those grieving the death of a loved one for two days in the mountains. Through group support, shared meals, hiking, and restorative time outside, guests had space to honor the people they’ve lost and experience grief in the company of others.

Wildflower & Watercolor

Karin Teague, Executive Director of the Independence Pass Foundation, and Aspen watercolor artist Amy Beidleman led guests through High Camp’s alpine meadows, pairing wildflower identification and ecology with watercolor painting. The weekend offered a chance to look more closely at the landscape, learn about the plants that thrive here, and capture them on paper. It was a weekend filled with curiosity, creativity, and a renewed appreciation for the fragile alpine ecosystem.

Journey Into Awe

Author, wilderness guide, and resilience expert Sara Schulting Kranz led guests through four days centered around the power of awe and time in nature. Forest bathing, mindfulness, reiki, hiking, and time together in the mountains encouraged guests to slow down, gain perspective, and explore how nature can help us navigate change and build resilience.

Poetry Inspired by Nature

Celebrated poet, teacher, and facilitator Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer joined us at High Camp for four days of poetry, nature, and creative exploration. Through guided writing, poetry readings, thoughtful conversation, and time spent hiking and exploring the mountains, Rosemerry encouraged participants to slow down, pay attention, and find inspiration in the world around them.
